Making a difference
Rachel Cook’s blog about her work at Owen Kenny as a Wills & Probate Executive in our Private Client department:
I started working at Owen Kenny in 2011 and have been studying the CILEX (Chartered Institute of Legal Executives) qualification. My caseload consists of mainly Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney and also some Probate work. I enjoy being a part of the Wills and Probate team at Owen-Kenny and enjoy socialising outside of work with some of the team.
The part of my job I love the most is meeting with my elderly clients. I feel I have a good rapport with them and I enjoy hearing about their adventures or things they have done in their lifetime. I am also empathetic when clients are going through a difficult time.
I had a client who had recently lost her husband and did not have any other family members. She ended up in hospital very ill and when she went home, she did not cope well without her husband. She made a Lasting Power of Attorney appointing this firm as her Attorneys and I have been able to assist her with moving into a care home and managing her affairs. She loves where she lives now and has made lots of new friends. From seeing her very ill in hospital to seeing her smiling and happy again now, and also very witty with her jokes, makes all the difference.
