How long does it take to get a divorce?

In theory it takes around six months from the start of divorce proceedings to the making of the Final Order which ends the marriage. In practice, the actual time it takes varies depending on how quickly the court deals with the various stages of the process. If there are issues concerning the family finances to be resolved, in most cases it is sensible to deal with these before finalising the divorce. If there is a dispute about the family finances, it can take up to 12 months or more for a court to deal with, but the majority of such disputes can be resolved in shorter timescale.
